Saoner Agricultural Produce Market Committee was established on 04/01/1973 under the leadership of Late Damodarrao Naik. He started his work under the guidance of Cooperative Maharshi Late Babasaheb Kedar. While the land acquisition process for the market yard was being done with the District Officer Nagpur, Late Damodarrao Naik overcame many obstacles and finally got possession of 2.08 Hectares of land on 09/03/1977. The acknowledgement of this is that Saoner Market Yard was named "Late. Damodarrao Naik Market Yard" on 05/04/1980 under the chairmanship of Hon. Former Minister Narendraji Tidke in the presence of Sahkar Maharshi Babasaheb Kedar and it was given at the naming ceremony by the auspicious hands of Justice Chandrashekhar Dharmadhikari.

After the death of Late Damodarrao Naik, Late Gunwantrao Kedar held the post of Chairman of the Market Committee from 17/08/1982 to 10/02/2004. During his tenure, the loans taken from the government, Agriculture and Marketing Board Pune and Cooperative Bank for construction were repaid by 26/08/2009. After that, Late Shri. Sudhakar Wamanraoji Deshmukh (Chairman) and Shri. Ravindra Manoharji Chikhale (Vice Chairman) held the post. During their tenure, the committee did necessary developmental constructions in the main market premises and sub-markets from its own funds without taking any loans. Also, while handing over the charge to the new board of directors, the committee's own funds of Rs. 2 crore 5 lakh were invested in fixed deposits.

After that, the election of the board of directors was held on On 26/07/2009. The directors elected in that election in the first meeting on 27/08/2009 elected Late Vithoba Keshavrao Pavde as Chairman and Mr. Ravindra Manohar Chikhale as Vice Chairman. This board of directors, under the guidance of the respected Sahkar Maharshi Late Babasaheb Kedar and Hon. Shri. Sunilbabu Kedar (Former Minister, Maharashtra State), completed the development works worth Rs. 1 crore in 2 years at Saoner Market Yard without taking any loan.

Then the election of the board of directors was held on 03/05/2015. The directors elected in that election in the first meeting on 29/05/2015 elected Mr. Gunwant Trimbakraoji Chaudhary as Chairman and Mr. Chandrashekhar Rambhauji Kumbhalkar as Vice Chairman. This board of directors elected Hon. Shri. Under the guidance of Sunilbabu Kedar (Former Minister, Maharashtra State), developmental construction has been done on Saoner Market Yard as per the requirement without taking any loan. His tenure was till 22/04/2022.

After that, a Government Administrator was appointed on the Market Committee on 23/04/2022. Shri. Rajendra Laxmanrao Waghe (Assistant Registrar, Saoner Cooperative Society) supervised the work of the Committee as the Government Administrator till 12/05/2023.

The election of the existing Board of Directors was held unopposed and the directors elected in that election elected Shri. Ravindra Manoharji Chikhale as the Chairman and Shri. Prakash Shamraoji Lanjewar as the Deputy Chairman in the first meeting on 12/05/2023 unopposed.

As of 31/03/2025, Rs. 37 crore 50 lakh of the market committee's own income has been invested in fixed deposits in cooperative banks and nationalized banks.

Scope of Market Committee

The scope of work of the Savner Agricultural Products Market Committee is limited to the villages coming under Savner Panchayat Samiti as well as Savner and Khapa Nagar Parishads, a total of 135 villages.

District Deputy Registrar, Cooperative Societies, Nagpur regulate agricultural products like cotton (spun and unspun), groundnut (cracked and uncracked), soybean, linseed, sesame, castor, flax, wheat, paddy, rice, jowar, gram, tur, urad, moong, peas, orange, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, leafy vegetables and vegetables, sweet potato etc. as well as cattle, goats and sheep through government notifications from time to time.

The area of ​​this market premises is 6.12 ha. and the boundary area of ​​this site has been declared by the Hon. District Deputy Registrar, Cooperative Societies, Nagpur under Section 5 (2) vide Notification No. Vikas-4 Agricultural Produce Market Committee, Savner – 1425-1983 dated 01 October 1983. The said notification has been published in the Maharashtra Government Gazette on 22 March 1984. Cotton market and grain market are operating in this premises.

Khapa Sub-Market Premises

The area of ​​this market premises is 1.21 The District Deputy Registrar, Cooperative Societies, Nagpur has issued a notification vide Notification No. Vikas/4/Sub-Market/Savner/APM/Gazette 7226/84 dated 30th April 1984. The said notification has been published in the Maharashtra Government Gazette dated 28th June 1984. A bull market is held in this premises every Sunday and a grain market is open on other days.

The main market yard in Savner has 3 auction stalls for the sale of grains and oilseeds, 19 adjacent merchant shops, 8 merchant godowns for the storage of agricultural produce, in addition to 1 with a capacity of 750 MT, 2 with a capacity of 1000 MT, agricultural produce storage godown, 3 cattle drinking troughs, wells, water tanks, 4 toilets, 2 orange auction stalls, office building, farmer's residence, canteen, check post, porter's residence, sufficient space for cotton sale, street lights for lighting in the market yard, sodium vapor lights on the side of the auction stall and godown, 15 kV generator, etc. Facilities are available. Also, the weight of the farmer's agricultural produce is measured on an electronic scale. For accurate measurement of cotton, Babasaheb Kedar Ginning Pressing and Processing Institute has a 10 MT capacity weighbridge at Saoner.

Khapa Sub-Market Premises

Auction yard with shed for grain auction, 6 stalls for traders, 1 godown, office, check post, toilets, urinals, 2 water tanks for cattle, well, water tank, canteen 4, iron pegs for tying cattle in the bull market, firewood, street lights for lighting etc. are available. Also, the weight of the farmer's farm produce is measured on an electronic scale.

Current Scheme

  • A scheme of Rs. 10 for food is being implemented for farmers who come to sell their agricultural produce in the market committee.
  • In case of accidental death of an animal of a farmer in the area of ​​work, Rs. 10,000/- is provided as financial assistance for 1 animal and Rs. 15,000/- if 2 animals die.
  • A farm product mortgage loan scheme is being implemented to meet the immediate financial needs of farmers.
  • Every year, a lucky draw is made in the general assembly and agricultural goods are given as gifts to the farmers who bring their agricultural produce for sale.
